an impressively unscheduled couple of weeks…

Hello again, blogland! What’s new and exciting?

We’ve been pretty relaxed around here, to be honest. I’ve been stashing up some more gorgeous spinning fiber and finishing up my straggly WIPs.

Starling Longies YYMN

This isn’t quite a final photo, but here’s a pair of YYMN longies that I’ve finished up for a customer in Nurturing Threads’ “Starling” colourway on Cestari. They felt like they took ages, but I’m so pleased with the results! I think that they turned out excellently. She was hoping for something a little different, so we went with a textured stripe pattern, utilizing the quilted lattice stitch also seen in the Springtime in Hollis sweater. I think they’re loads of fun!

I’ve also finished up a project for me! This is a wurm hat knit up in my own handspun. Original fiber from Funky Carolina, “A Different Exclamation” on BFL/Silk. Delicious to spin AND to knit. I need moar.

I am a rockstar.

Some modeled shots for your amusement. ;)

I dyed yarn last week, too! Just the beginner-ish kool-aid & a crockpot method, but I think it turned out pretty well! The skein on the right was the first one I did and came out reaaaaallly semi-solid, rather than the variegated look I was going for. The Law of Red learned, (which is the fact that it eats everything and goes a lot farther than any other colour) I went back and came out with the skein on the left, which went much better. Now I’m out of blank yarn, though. I have a sad feeling this could be an addictive habit. Oi.

Look what I made! :D

And finally, here’s my lastest spinning WIP. More FLUFF – a merino/silk blend this time in their “Explore” colourway. Very yummy!

Anyway, going to go work on the second bobbin of that, so have a wonderful Wednesday! ;)

march hare

I just finished these up last night and wanted to share; they were a semi-custom knit that went up in my shop on the 6th using Dashing Dachs’ “March Hare” colorway. I’m really loving how they knit up!

muggabug collaboration

I finished up the knit portion of the collaboration I did with Janet of Muggabug this past week and the whole thing is on its way to its new home tomorrow. I just love how gorgeously rustic Marr Haven knits up; it has just enough natural texture to look homespun and thoroughly inviting. One of my favorite yarns, I will admit. I hope the customer loves these longies! I adored knitting them up. They aren’t quite as bright as they appear in the photos, but they’re close.

Yarn was dyed by Christine at Hippy Pippy in a colorway she called “Hoot Hoot”.

daytime television is epically awful

This is one of the things that I have learned since I became a stay-at-home-mom. Another thing I have learned is that my house will never be clean, and when you knit a lot, you invariably end up with piles of scraps from various projects. There is yarn everywhere. EVERYWHERE. No lie.

I’m working up the yarn in the first photo of my last post now for a wonderful lady who purchased the owl collab from my store, and it’s knitting up just as wonderfully as I expected!

I finished the cardigan that I was knitting up for the winner of my auction on the Haiti Relief cart on Hyenacart, and I absolutely LOVE the way that it turned out. It got lovingly packed up and sent on its way to its new home this morning, and I do confess that I’ll miss it! The last few rows of the sweater made me a little nervous – I think I ended up with about 4 yards left at the end of the project. Yikes!

I’ve been spinning a bit, as well. Really enjoying it, to be honest! Here’s my third completed yarn for your visual pleasure. ;)

That’s about it for now! Ciao, babes. <3

Feb 26 2010

t-minus three days!

Until my opening!

Previews are up on the HC store, but I like to share, so I’ll post them here, too!

Elemental Shorties

Kipperlike Longies

Little Orchard Wonder Bloomers

One Love(ly) Juliette

I also participated in a Yarn for Woolies swap on the Hyenacart forums, and knit up these for my partner:

Mosaic Moon Woodland In Spring Shorties

I had a semi-custom listed on the HC Haiti Relief cart from February 14th-21st, and am working on that as we speak – I hope to have it finished up by the end of the week, so I’ll post photos soon!

Aside from knitting, things really have been mostly uneventful. A keeps growing (and we’re pretty sure he’s got some teeth coming in), and I’m kind of in denial that he’ll be 6 months old in a couple of weeks. It’s crazy!

Dec 21 2009

it's almost christmas, again!

There’s been a lot of knitting going on ’round these parts!

Most of it is gift knitting, so I won’t say much, but I will share photos. There’s enough that if any giftees happen along that they should have fun trying to figure out what – if anything – is for them.

In associated news, I sent two samples to Pamela of Wooly Wonder for licensing approval on both Wonderpants and Perfection Pants, and am consequently looking into knitting-longies-for-hire. All things going well, I’m hoping to open up a hyenacart store and start stocking (at least) some custom slots shortly into the new year. Manda of Violetminded has very fantastically agreed to work out a logo for the store, which I’m pretty sure will be called Boreal Baby Knits. Here’s hoping everything works out! I’ll be posting a few of the pairs I’ve done up until this point shortly, once I have a little more time.

As for Christmas, I’m still pretty unprepared. We do have most of our shopping done, but I’m feeling very unmotivated with regards to wrapping. I am looking forward to the holiday, though. Lots of family to spend it with! Can’t wait! Aside from the time I get to spend with my family, my other favorite part of Christmas is my dad’s turkey – PHENOMENAL. I’m going to take photos of it this year for posterity…and to share with the internet, of course! ;)

What’s your favorite part of the holidays?

Mrs. Darcy et al.

Sweater is finished! However, my planning is apparently flawed in its design – it’s now averaging 20ºC, and therefore the use of a worsted weight wool sweater is, well, stupid. Honestly, I think I could feel myself growing faint in the ten minutes I wore it to take the photos. Who’da thunk it?!

On the job front (which I said I’d update about awhile ago, but didn’t), I actually applied for and got a job a couple of weeks ago that started yesterday. I’m an “Administrative Assistant” with a local land surveying company, and it’s actually quite interesting. A big change from Subway! The days are a lot longer than I’m used to – 10 hours – but they go by really fast. I’m just exhausted these past couple of days, though; the hours are definitely going to take some getting used to.

That said, though, I cast on a Laminaria with some Silk/Wool 50/50 laceweight that I bought from Laughing Rat on Etsy. Started the fourth repeat of the first chart and I’m really appreciating the way it’s coming out; the yarn was a good choice.

But, I’ve got to be off to bed. Need to get accustomed to the new schedule. I’ll keep you updated. ;-)
