daytime television is epically awful

This is one of the things that I have learned since I became a stay-at-home-mom. Another thing I have learned is that my house will never be clean, and when you knit a lot, you invariably end up with piles of scraps from various projects. There is yarn everywhere. EVERYWHERE. No lie.

I’m working up the yarn in the first photo of my last post now for a wonderful lady who purchased the owl collab from my store, and it’s knitting up just as wonderfully as I expected!

I finished the cardigan that I was knitting up for the winner of my auction on the Haiti Relief cart on Hyenacart, and I absolutely LOVE the way that it turned out. It got lovingly packed up and sent on its way to its new home this morning, and I do confess that I’ll miss it! The last few rows of the sweater made me a little nervous – I think I ended up with about 4 yards left at the end of the project. Yikes!

I’ve been spinning a bit, as well. Really enjoying it, to be honest! Here’s my third completed yarn for your visual pleasure. ;)

That’s about it for now! Ciao, babes. <3

A Little More Progress . . .

Â
Blocking, blocking, blocking.

Husband has been out at work for the past few days so I’ve managed to squeeze in a good amount of knitting/knitting-related progress. Finishing up the cuff on the second sleeve – should have it done in the next day or two all things going as planned. The first sleeve is sitting coiled on the coffee table waiting patiently for its own blockage. I really can’t wait for seaming; mostly because I can’t wait until I can wear it!

The cats were really intrigued with the blocking process, and impeded my progress every step of the way. I’d turn my head for a moment to grab another pile of pins and when I turned back there were cats rolling on my still-damp back panel. Agh! They’re hell-bent on hairifying every piece of knitting in the house, I swear.

On a side note: Kung Fu Panda? Definitely worth a watch. It was great fun – enjoyable for just about any age. We went last night with some friends and took my younger sister and everyone had a great time. Been awhile since I’ve really enjoyed a “funny movie”, so I like to pretend that counts for something.

Did I mention that it’s starting to feel like summer? (Even in the house!)

Knitterly Denial? Never!

I started a cardigan a couple of months ago, Mary Weaver’s Mrs. Darcy, to be exact. I knit the garter stitch border on back, got bored and shoved it into the closet with my stash. There was nothing wrong with it, really, I got distracted by my first pair of socks and consequently, starting a couple more pairs of socks. It was a losing battle.

Then, a week or so ago, I decided to take a short break from my second Jaywalker sock (which is about 35% complete) and work on something with a larger gauge for awhile. I considered casting on something new, but as I was perusing patterns and stash I remembered the cardigan. Hastily (so I wouldn’t have time to cast on something else I wouldn’t finish straight away) I pattered down the hallway and pulled the barely-started project from the closet.

Apparently it was a good decision.

I’m three quarters through the first sleeve and all of the body pieces are complete. I’m really quite impressed, as I’ve only had to frog once. The frogging, of course, has been on the sleeve. Which I carefully knit to completion; decreased for the shoulder caps according to the pattern, bound off. . .and realized that it was about five inches too short. That’ll teach me for questioning a duplicate instruction in a pattern – unless you have really short arms, you are supposed to knit 37 rows of stockinette twice, rather than once.

I am quite proud, however, that I caught onto this fact quickly, and before everything was seamed. Although there were moments, I sure conquered that first bout of Knitter’s Denial.

I’ll probably post pictures of the sweater when I finish – and possibly when I get around to blocking the body pieces. Not tonight, though. I have to putter over to my parents’ for dinner, and then I think I’ll knit. :)
